Livingstone powers England to series levelling win over Aussies in 2nd T20I


  England claimed victory in the second match of the series after a strong comeback, following their loss in the first match. Buoyed by a spectacular innings from Liam Livingstone,  England won the thrilling encounter by 3 wickets with an over to spare. Key players in England's win were Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethell, who played crucial roles with the bat. Although neither of them remained unbeaten, their efforts were pivotal in getting England close to victory.


In this match, England's captain Phil Salt won the toss and opted to field first. Australia was captained by Travis Head, as regular skipper Mitchell Marsh missed the game due to illness. Batting first, Australia put up a total of 193 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Australia's batting was impressive throughout the innings.


Opening the innings, Matthew Short and Travis Head gave Australia a blistering start as he cane out all guns blazing as usual . Head smashed 31 runs off just 14 balls before being dismissed. After his departure, Jake Fraser-McGurk joined Short, and they steadied the innings for a while. Short was dismissed after scoring 28 runs off 24 balls. However, Fraser-McGurk went on to score his maiden T20 International half-century, making 50 runs from 31 deliveries hitting explosive strokes . In addition, Josh Inglis contributed with a quickfire 42 off 26 balls, hitting 5 fours and a six. Aaron Hardie also made a crucial contribution of 20 runs off 9 balls, helping Australia to a strong total.


England's Run Chase


Australia had set a formidable target of 194 runs for England.  Sean Abbott bowled a great over in powerplay to take early wickets of Salt (20) & Cox , while Jacks (12) dissappointed again. However despite the early losses , England successfully chased down the target with one over to spare. Liam Livingstone played a blistering knock of 87 runs off 47 balls, while Jacob Bethell added 44 runs off 24 balls. Livingstone after a long time justified his batting prowess by smashing a depleted Aussie bowling attack all over the park with breathtaking shots while Bethell marked his debut with a magnificent innings hitting big shots & showcasing his talent after a slowish start . On the bowling front, Australia used seven bowlers, with Matthew Short impressing by taking 5 wickets for 22 runs in his 3 overs. However, his efforts were not enough to secure a win for Australia.


With England’s victory, the series is now tied 1-1. Both teams will be looking to take the lead in the third match, scheduled for September 15.
