Euro Soccer Leagues : Barcelona winning streak continues , ManU jolted again
Barcelona is looking unstoppable. They are dominating the Spanish league, having won all seven of their first matches this season. With 21 points, Barcelona sits at the top of the table, four points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid.
However, their victory against Getafe in the seventh match was not easy. Getafe, who has yet to win a match this season, was expected to be an easy opponent for Barcelona. Despite the expectations, the Catalan club only managed a 1-0 win, thanks to a goal from Robert Lewandowski in the 19th minute.
Barcelona took 15 shots on target, but Getafe's goalkeeper, David Soria, held firm. Lewandowski's goal came from a mistake by Soria, who fumbled a cross from Jules Koundé, allowing Lewandowski to finish the job. Despite several attempts by players like Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres, Barcelona couldn’t extend their lead.
Fans were also keen to watch Barcelona’s defense, especially with Marc-André ter Stegen sidelined due to an injury. Inaki Peña started the match in goal and performed well. Lewandowski, too, continued his strong form with his seventh goal in seven matches this season. Barcelona has now scored 23 goals and conceded five.
The team’s current form matches their performance in the 2017-18 season when they also won their first seven matches. Barcelona's best start to a season was in 2013-14, with eight consecutive wins. If they win their next match, they will equal that record under Hansi Flick's management.
Meanwhile, Manchester United drew 1-1 with FC Twente in the Europa League. Christian Eriksen gave United the lead in the 35th minute, but Sam Lammers equalized in the 68th. United’s performance in European competitions has been disappointing, with five losses, three draws, and just one win in their last nine matches. This draw has intensified criticism of manager Erik ten Hag, with fans calling for his immediate dismissal, claiming he has ruined the quality of the team’s play.
In a separate highlight, Arsenal’s 16-year-old goalkeeper, Jack Porter, made history by becoming the youngest player to feature for the club. He played in their English League Cup match against Bolton at just 16 years and 72 days, breaking Cesc Fàbregas’ record, who played for Arsenal at 16 years and 177 days in 2003.
