Kane scores a brace as Eng win, Czechia beat Ukraine in UEFA nations league
England captain Harry Kane marked his 100th cap in stunning style, scoring two remarkable goals as England triumphed over Finland in the UEFA Nations League at Wembley. Kane was honored with a golden cap before the match to celebrate this milestone and donned golden boots, which he used to break down Finland's stubborn defense.
England found it difficult to turn their possession into goals early on, with Kane twice being denied by Finland's goalkeeper, Lukas Hradecky, and having a goal disallowed for offside. However, Kane eventually broke the deadlock with his 67th international goal, a strike befitting the occasion. In the 57th minute, he skillfully controlled a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold and fired a powerful shot past Hradecky.
Kane's memorable night was further enhanced 14 minutes later when England debutant Noni Madueke set him up for another clinical finish, giving Hradecky no chance. This second goal capped off a much-improved second-half performance from England, securing interim manager Lee Carsley his second consecutive win after their victory over the Republic of Ireland in Dublin.
Meanwhile, in another Nations League match, Pavel Šulc's two first-half goals helped the Czech Republic secure a 3-2 win over Ukraine. Both teams had multiple chances, but a late penalty sealed the win for the Czechs.
Šulc opened the scoring by redirecting a shot from Vaclav Cerny past Ukraine's goalkeeper, Anatoliy Trubin. Ukraine equalized in the 37th minute with a header from Vladyslav Vanat, following a cross from Mykola Shaparenko. However, just before halftime, Šulc added his second goal with a superb volley.
Czech captain Tomáš Souček extended their lead with an 80th-minute penalty, though Georgiy Sudakov scored a late goal for Ukraine. Despite this, Ukraine remains winless in Group B1, while the Czechs recorded their first victory. The Czech Republic will next host Albania, while Ukraine faces Georgia in October.
