Sri Lanka needs 2 more wickets to wrap up the 1st test vs New Zealand, Ravindra lone fighter

An exciting contest unfolded in the first Test cricket match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, with the hosts just two wickets away from victory at the end of play on the fourth day, Sunday. New Zealand, chasing a target of 275 runs, finished the day at 207 for eight, needing 68 more runs to win on the fifth and final day.

The pitch has been offering significant assistance to spinners, making it difficult for the New Zealand team to reach the target. Left-handed batter Rachin Ravindra has been the only player to stand firm against the bowlers, remaining unbeaten on 91 runs. If he completes his century on Monday, he will become the first Kiwi batsman to score a hundred on this ground.  The other Kiwi batters struggled to preserve their wickets , Kane Williamson lost his wicket to a stumping after trying to take on the spinners by often using his feet .

For Sri Lanka, Ramesh Mendis and Prabath Jayasuriya have each taken three wickets. Sri Lanka posted scores of 305 and 309 in their first and second innings, respectively. New Zealand, after scoring 340 in their first innings, had gained a 35-run lead.

Notably, a rest day was given during this first Test match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Upon returning to the field, the host team displayed a renewed determination. New Zealand's batters have been seen struggling for every run. Despite weather interruptions attempting to disrupt the game, the match has now reached its final phase. Regardless of which team emerges victorious, an exciting finish is expected.
