Travis Head delivered a remarkable performance as Australia defeated England by seven wickets in the first ODI, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Playing at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, Head remained unbeaten with a superb 154 off 129 balls, hitting 20 fours and five sixes. Australia successfully chased down England's challenging target of 316 in just 44 overs, marking their joint fourth-highest successful run chase in ODI history and extending their winning streak in the format to 13 matches.

England, having elected to bat first, were bowled out for 315 in 49.4 overs. Despite losing Phil Salt early, Ben Duckett and Will Jacks built momentum with a 120-run partnership for the second wicket. Duckett who played his typically punchy strokes  narrowly missed his century, dismissed for 95 by Marnus Labuschagne, who proved vital for Australia with three wickets. Jacks contributed 62 before falling to Adam Zampa, who, playing his 100th ODI, finished with impressive figures of 10-1-49-3. Stand-in captain Harry Brook added 39, while Jamie Smith and Jacob Bethell chipped in with 23 and 35 runs respectively, the latter impressing once again following the T20I series.

England's Matthew Potts provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Australian captain Mitchell Marsh who was caught on the pull , but Head ensured Australia stayed on course with  his glorious strokes including cuts and flicks and one great flicked 6 off Archer  . He partnered with Steve Smith for a 76-run stand over 12 overs to steady the innings. After Smith was dismissed by Liam Livingstone, Head and Cameron Green added 73 runs, with Green contributing 32 from as many balls. Head, supported by Labuschagne, reached his century off 92 balls and crossed the 150-run mark from 123 deliveries. Labuschagne's unbeaten 77 off 61 balls helped secure an unbroken 148-run partnership for the fourth wicket, sealing Australia's comfortable victory.

England, having endured a tough loss, will look to regroup and bounce back in the second ODI, scheduled for September 21 at Headingley in Leeds.
