Ipl2026: Rizvi’s Blazing Knock Powers Delhi Capitals to Thrilling Win Over Mumbai Indians

 


Another match, and yet again it was the sensational young talent Sameer Rizvi who carried his team on his shoulders. His electrifying innings on Saturday guided Delhi Capitals to a hard-fought victory over Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League. With back-to-back wins, Axar Patel’s side now sits comfortably at the top of the points table, looking every bit like title contenders under the leadership group featuring KL Rahul.

Mumbai suffered a setback before the game, as regular captain Hardik Pandya missed out due to fitness issues. In his absence, Suryakumar Yadav took charge of the five-time champions but had a disappointing outing at the toss. Batting first, Mumbai posted a modest total, with Rohit Sharma playing a somewhat sluggish yet steady knock of 35 off 26 balls after his previous half-century. Suryakumar chipped in with a composed 51 off 36 deliveries, but none of the Mumbai batters managed to shift gears aggressively. Delhi’s disciplined bowling, spearheaded by the economical spell of Axar Patel, restricted them to 162 in 20 overs. All Delhi bowlers, except Kuldeep Yadav, found their names in the wickets column.

Delhi’s chase, however, got off to a shaky and nerve-wracking start. KL Rahul (1)  fell early for just one run caught down legside off Dipak Chahar , continuing his poor run after a first-ball dismissal in the previous match. Another key batter, Nitish Rana , departed without scoring being run out , deepening the crisis. With fans fearing yet another batting collapse, Rizvi walked in and changed the narrative with remarkable composure with Nissanka

Pathum Nissanka batted superbly scoring 44 laced with some dazzling shots and he found a good partner in Rizvi 

Partnering with Pathum Nissanka, Rizvi stitched together a crucial and momentum-shifting 66-run partnership that brought Delhi back into the contest. Even after Nissanka’s dismissal in the 10th over, Rizvi continued to anchor the innings with maturity beyond his years hitting several breathtaking sixes in his 90 runs . At the other end, the explosive David Miller (21*)  played a surprisingly restrained supporting role.

Rizvi eventually fell for a superb 90 while attempting an audacious stroke, but by then he had virtually sealed the game for his side. His fearless, match-defining knock ensured Delhi’s second consecutive win, propelling them to the summit of the table with four points. The Capitals’ campaign is gathering serious momentum, driven by confidence, balance, and the brilliance of their rising star.
