IPL2026 : KKR vs PBKS game washed out due to rains in Kolkata , teams share points

Persistent rain and strong gusts ultimately had the final word, forcing the abandonment of the Indian Premier League 2026 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens on Monday.

Despite forecasts of bad weather, KKR chose to bat first but made a shaky start, slipping to 25 for two in just 3.4 overs before rain interrupted play barely 17 minutes into the contest.

Already under pressure after two successive defeats, KKR were without the injured Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine. In an effort to bolster their batting, Rovman Powell and Navdeep Saini were brought into the playing XI.

However, the move did little to stabilise the innings early on. Finn Allen and Cameron Green both fell cheaply, caught behind off an incisive spell from Xavier Bartlett. With Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi beginning the rebuilding process, rain once again intervened, forcing the players off the field.

There was brief optimism of a restart as the groundstaff worked quickly to protect the pitch and outfield. But conditions deteriorated as the evening progressed, with heavy rain and swirling winds taking over.

Water soon began to collect on the covers, the stands started to empty, and any hopes of resumption faded. With no improvement in sight, match referee Javagal Srinath officially called off the game at 11:00 PM IST, resulting in both teams sharing the points.
