IPL2026 : Kohli’s Masterclass Outshines Century as RCB Cruise to Victory Over Gujarat Titans

 

A century lit up the opposition’s innings, but it was an electrifying 81 from Virat Kohli that truly captured the hearts of cricket fans. The ‘King’ once again rose to the occasion, prioritizing his team’s needs over personal milestones. His relentless intent to accelerate the scoring meant he fell short of a well-deserved hundred—but by then, he had already laid the foundation for Royal Challengers Bangalore’s emphatic win. Kohli walked off with a broad smile as RCB sealed the game convincingly.

Coming into the match under pressure after a previous defeat at home, RCB had plenty of concerns—particularly around their batting struggles at the Chinnaswamy. The absence of their last game’s top-scorer added to their woes. Yet, as has often been the case, Kohli emerged as the ultimate problem-solver. His sublime innings on Friday proved decisive, steering last season’s champions to a crucial victory. Meanwhile, back-to-back losses have now made the playoff road increasingly difficult for the Gujarat Titans.

RCB skipper Rajat Patidar won the toss and opted to bowl first. Gujarat’s innings was headlined by a sensational 58-ball century from Sai Sudharsan, who finally rediscovered his form after a quiet start to the season. However, he found little support from the rest of the batting unit. Captain Shubman Gill managed a modest 32 off 24, while Jos Buttler contributed just 25. A late cameo from Jason Holder(23* in 10 balls ) pushed Gujarat past the 200-mark. Veteran seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivered another disciplined spell, conceding only 31 runs in four overs and picking up Buttler’s wicket.

Chasing 206 at the Chinnaswamy is usually manageable, though this season the pitch hasn’t been the batting paradise it once was. Early trouble struck as Jacob Bethell (14)  departed cheaply. What followed, however, was a breathtaking partnership. Kohli, alongside Devdutt Padikkal, unleashed a flurry of attacking strokes. Their 117-run stand all but sealed the contest, with Padikkal smashing a sublime & rapid 55 off just 27 balls.

After Padikkal’s departure, Kohli who was dropped off a sitter on 0 by Sundar , shifted gears yet again, dismantling the Gujarat bowling attack with calculated aggression. Two consecutive sixes off Holder showcased his dominance, but in pursuit of quick runs, he fell for a brilliant 81—just short of a century that seemed inevitable. A brief wobble followed as RCB lost two quick wickets, offering Gujarat a glimmer of hope. But it proved too little, too late.

In the end, RCB held their nerve and completed a commanding win, with Kohli’s dazzling knock standing tall as the defining performance of the night.
