IPL2026 : Another loss for KKR as Gujarat Titans cruise to 2 more points , Gill shines

Matches come and go, but the result remains unchanged for the Kolkata Knight Riders. From Eden Gardens to Ahmedabad, their losing streak simply refuses to end. The Knights had no answer to Shubman Gill’s brilliant innings, as their struggles continued unabated. Even luck seems to have deserted them, as Kolkata slumped to a disappointing five-wicket defeat against the Gujarat Titans. The result makes one thing clear—under Ajinkya Rahane’s leadership, losing is becoming an unfortunate habit for KKR.

There is now little doubt left. If any team deserves to be at the bottom of the IPL points table, it is KKR. On Friday, their directionless performance showed that they have learned nothing from their previous defeats. In all three departments—batting, bowling, and captaincy—the Knight Riders appear well behind the other teams in the tournament. A lack of consistency has plagued them since the start of the season. Having already lost four matches, they added another to the tally with this defeat against Gujarat.

At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Rahane won the toss and opted to bat first, hoping his batters would play with freedom and intent. In line with that approach, Tim Seifert was brought into the side in place of Finn Allen. However, when the captain himself falls off the very first ball, it sets the tone for the innings. Rahane was caught off Mohammed Siraj in the opening over. In the very next over, the in-form Angkrish Raghuvanshi was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada. Seifert showed some promise but could only manage 19 runs.

Just when things looked bleak for KKR, the Australian all-rounder Cameron Green finally came good with the bat. After a string of failures, he scored a fighting 79, albeit after surviving a few chances. Unfortunately, he received little support from the rest of the lineup. KKR managed to post 180 on the board—a total that always seemed slightly below par.

In response, Gujarat got off to a blazing start, with Anukul Roy conceding three sixes in the very first over. Sunil Narine did strike in the next over, dismissing Sai Sudharsan for 22 off 16 balls, but the scoring rate hardly slowed. Varun Chakravarthy removed Jos Buttler for 25, yet Gujarat remained firmly in control.

At the heart of the chase was captain Shubman Gill, who had shown promise earlier in the tournament but lacked a big score. Against KKR, he delivered in style, scoring a magnificent 86 off 50 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. Riding on his innings, Gujarat Titans chased down the target in 19.4 overs, finishing at 5 wickets down.

With this victory, Gujarat climbed to fourth place on the points table. As for KKR, while Green finally found form, their wait for a turnaround continues. With five losses in six matches, they remain rooted to the bottom of the table.
