IPL2026 : Kohli’s Fiery Cameo Powers RCB to Dominant Win Over LSG after bowling brilliance

A wounded tiger is always more dangerous—and Virat Kohli proved exactly that on Wednesday. Left out of the starting XI, Kohli walked in as an Impact Player and made an immediate statement, showcasing just how decisive his presence can be. With a blistering knock, the “King” guided Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a comfortable win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), sending his team straight to the top of the points table.

RCB skipper Rajat Patidar’s decision at the toss stunned fans, as Kohli’s name was missing from the starting lineup. However, it appeared to be a precautionary move, possibly due to a minor injury rather than form concerns. Asked to bowl first, RCB’s bowling unit bulldozed through LSG’s batting lineup. The cracks in Lucknow’s batting—masked during their narrow win against KKR earlier—were fully exposed in this match.

Mitchell Marsh top-scored for LSG with 40 off 32 balls, while Mukul Chowdhury (39 off 28) and Ayush Badoni (38 off 24) made useful contributions. But the rest of the lineup faltered badly. Skipper Rishabh Pant continued his disappointing run in the tournament, managing just 1 run off 6 balls. LSG were eventually bowled out for a modest 146 in 20 overs.

Chasing 147 on a tricky Chinnaswamy pitch was not entirely straightforward, but Kohli ensured there were no hiccups. Opening the innings as an Impact Player, he launched a fierce assault, racing to 40 off just 20 balls in the powerplay. RCB piled up 60 runs in the first six overs, largely thanks to Kohli’s aggressive approach. Though he fell just short of a half-century, scoring 49, he had already done the bulk of the job.

Building on the platform set by Kohli, Rajat Patidar (27), Jitesh Sharma (23), and Tim David chipped in with handy contributions to seal the chase with ease. The defending champions cruised to victory, underlining their dominance in a one-sided contest.
