IPL2026: Punjab Kings Continue Rampage, Crush LSG to Stay Unbeaten in High-Scoring game
Punjab Kings remain unstoppable in the IPL, tightening their grip at the top of the table with a fifth consecutive victory. On Sunday, they delivered a commanding performance at home to defeat Lucknow Super Giants, who slumped to their third straight loss. After posting a formidable 254/7, Punjab restricted Lucknow to 200/5, sealing a dominant win.
Chasing a daunting 255 in a T20 game is never easy, and despite a bold tactical change at the top, Lucknow fell short. Promoting Ayush Badoni to open alongside Mitchell Marsh in place of Aiden Markram initially paid dividends, as they raced to 61 in the powerplay. However, the scoring rate never quite matched the steep asking rate.
Badoni’s brisk 35 was followed by a 40 off 28 balls from Marsh, but once the latter departed, the innings lost momentum. Rishabh Pant fought hard, smashing 43 off just 23 balls with a flurry of boundaries and sixes, but lacked support from the other end. Nicholas Pooran had a quiet outing, managing only 9 runs.
Late resistance came from Markram and Mukul Chaudhary, who stitched together a partnership in a desperate attempt to revive the chase. Mukul even entertained with a stunning helicopter shot, but the target proved far too steep. Markram scored 42 before departing, while Mukul (21*) and Himmat Singh (1*) remained unbeaten as Lucknow fell well short.
Earlier, the match had all the signs of a record-breaking run-fest. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Pant’s decision paid immediate dividends as Mohammed Shami dismissed Prabhsimran Singh for a duck in the third ball. But what followed was sheer carnage.
Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly unleashed a breathtaking assault, dismantling the Lucknow bowling attack with fearless strokeplay. The duo stitched together a staggering 182-run partnership for the second wicket off just 81 balls, leaving the opposition clueless. Boundaries flowed freely as they dominated every corner of the ground.
Connolly fell agonizingly short of a century, scoring a blistering 87 off 46 balls, laced with eight fours and seven sixes. Priyansh was equally destructive, hammering 93 off just 37 deliveries, including four fours and nine sixes, before falling while attempting another aggressive shot.
Following their departures, Punjab briefly lost momentum, with Shreyas Iyer (5) and Nehal Wadhera (13) failing to make an impact. However, a late flourish from Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh propelled the total past the 250-mark.
Among the bowlers, Manimaran Siddharth stood out with figures of 2/35 in his three overs, while Shami endured an expensive spell, conceding 56 runs in four overs for a single wicket.
In the end, Punjab Kings’ explosive batting display proved too much for Lucknow Super Giants, as they continued their unbeaten run in emphatic fashion.
