IPL2026 : Killer Miller Seals Thriller as Delhi Capitals Snatch Victory from RCB
It went right down to the wire in a pulsating contest. With 15 runs required off the final over, the pressure was firmly on Delhi Capitals after two exceptional overs from Josh Hazlewood and Rasikh Dar had tightened the screws. But when it mattered most, David “Killer” Miller rose to the occasion, smashing boundaries at will to guide Delhi Capitals to a dramatic six-wicket victory. The win denied Royal Challengers Bengaluru a third consecutive triumph and cost them a chance to climb to the top of the table. Miller’s late blitz perfectly capitalized on the solid platform built by Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel, rendering Phil Salt’s valiant innings in vain.
After winning the toss, Delhi skipper Axar Patel opted to field first, sending Royal Challengers Bengaluru in to bat at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. RCB, donning their signature green jerseys as part of their annual environmental awareness initiative, once again found luck eluding them in this kit. Despite a promising start, what seemed like a 200-plus total eventually stalled at 175.
Virat Kohli endured a rare failure, managing just 19 before falling to Lungi Ngidi, who had him caught by Pathum Nissanka. Devdutt Padikkal (18) and skipper Rajat Patidar(8) also failed to make significant contributions. The innings was anchored by Phil Salt, who played a fluent knock of 63 off 38 balls, peppered with four boundaries and three sixes. However, once Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Salt, the momentum dipped sharply. Tim David (26) and Jitesh Sharma (14) struggled to accelerate in the death overs, resulting in a below-par total. Ngidi, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav were the standout bowlers, claiming two wickets each.
Chasing 176, Delhi Capitals had an early setback as Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck in the very first over, removing Pathum Nissanka. Karun Nair (5) and Sameer Rizvi (2) also fell cheaply, leaving Delhi under early pressure. However, KL Rahul steadied the innings with a strokeful and resilient knock , scoring 57 and he was really looking good before being dismissed by a stunning catch from Virat Kohli shortly after reaching his half-century.
Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel then took charge, maintaining a healthy run rate and keeping Delhi in the hunt. The match took another twist when Axar(26) retired hurt, and RCB bowlers mounted a fierce comeback in the death overs. Hazlewood and Rasikh delivered tight overs, pushing the game into a tense finale.
But in the final over, Miller turned the tide emphatically. With Romario Shepherd entrusted with the responsibility, Miller(22*) unleashed a flurry of powerful strokes, including consecutive sixes and a boundary, to seal a memorable victory for Delhi Capitals. Stubbs remained unbeaten on a crucial 60, playing the perfect supporting role in what turned out to be a thrilling chase.
