IPL2026 : Punjab Kings Outclass Mumbai Indians as Losing Streak Continues
Mumbai Indians’ nightmare run showed no signs of ending as they slumped to yet another defeat, making it four losses on the trot. Despite posting a competitive total close to 200, their lacklustre bowling display failed to put up even the slightest resistance, allowing Punjab Kings to cruise to a comfortable victory.
Opting to chase after winning the toss, Punjab made an early impact with the ball. Mumbai’s batting lineup suffered a dramatic collapse upfront as Arshdeep Singh struck twice in consecutive deliveries, dismissing Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav—the latter departing for a golden duck and deepening the early crisis.
Amid the chaos, Quinton de Kock rose to the occasion with a sensational counterattack. Given an opportunity due to Rohit Sharma’s injury, he made it count in spectacular fashion, smashing an unbeaten 112—his third IPL century. His electrifying 60-ball knock, laced with 8 boundaries and 7 towering sixes, anchored Mumbai’s innings. Naman Dhir provided valuable support with a well-crafted 50, as the duo stitched together a crucial 122-run partnership off 68 balls. A moment of brilliance in the field saw Shreyas Iyer orchestrate a stunning relay catch near the boundary to dismiss Hardik Pandya—one of the highlights of the match. Mumbai eventually posted 195/6 in their 20 overs, with Arshdeep finishing with impressive figures of 3/22.
However, defending the total always looked like a daunting task, especially given Mumbai’s fragile form. Punjab Kings approached the chase with confidence and composure. Although they lost two early wickets in the powerplay, there was never a sense of panic.
Captain Shreyas Iyer led from the front with a commanding 66, peppered with elegant boundaries and towering sixes, registering his third half-century of the tournament. He found a reliable ally in Prabhsimran Singh, who played a fluent and unbeaten knock of 80, striking 11 fours and 2 sixes. Their partnership effectively sealed the contest long before the finish line.
Punjab Kings chased down the target with remarkable ease, sealing victory with 21 balls to spare and handing Mumbai Indians yet another humbling defeat.
