South Africa win 2nd test to win series vs West Indies 1-0 , Maharaj , Mulder , Rabada shines

 


South Africa defeated the West Indies by 40 runs in the second Test match played in Guyana, clinching the series. Player of the series Keshav Maharaj and player of the match  Mulder  were the standout performer for South Africa. The first match of the series ended in a draw due to rain. With this victory in the second Test, South Africa secured the series win. They set a target of 263 runs for the West Indies, who managed to score only 222 runs. Maharaj was named Player of the Series for his impressive performance, taking 3 wickets for just 37 runs in the West Indies' second innings. He also became South Africa's most successful spinner, surpassing Hugh Tayfield's record of 170 Test wickets. Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada also claimed three wickets.


The West Indies had more than two days to chase down the target of 263 runs, but they lost Micahel Louis early for just four runs, caught by the wicketkeeper off a Rabada delivery. West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite (25) formed a 42-run partnership for the second wicket with Casey Carty before getting out and then Athanaze (15) was gone cheaply trying to sweep and more fall of wickets left the team at 104 for 6. Jason Holder did not get a chance to score and went cheaply lofting straight to long on's throat . Some lusty hitting by Motie (45) with support for D Silva (29) took the score to 181/6 before South African bowlers led by irrepressible Maharaj broke through decisively to bowl out the hosts for 222 .

Earlier in the morning, South Africa had scored 223 runs for the loss of five wickets. The 22-year-old fast bowler Jayden Seales took 6 wickets, helping to dismiss South Africa for 246 runs. Wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne was the top scorer for South Africa with 59 runs while Mulder scored a very crucial 34 runs. In terms of match statistics, South Africa scored 160 in their first innings, while the West Indies managed only 144 runs.

Earlier on the first day of the second Test between South Africa and the West Indies, fast bowlers dominated the play, with a total of 17 wickets falling. South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first. Shamarh Brooks claimed five wickets for 33 runs, helping the home team dismiss South Africa for 160 runs. By the end of the first day, the West Indies had reached 97 runs for the loss of seven wickets, still trailing South Africa's first-innings score by 63 runs. The rain-affected first Test played in Nida ended in a draw.

Batting first, South Africa's Aiden Markram scored 14 runs, Tony de Zorzi scored 1, Tristan Stubbs made 26 runs, and Bredingham contributed 28 runs. Verreynne added 21 runs, and Nandre Burger scored 23 runs, while Piedt remained not out with 38 runs and that crucial last wicket stand took South Africa from 97/9 to 160 and thus adding a very crucial 63 run stand which in the final analysis had a profound impact on the match . Captain Temba Bavuma, Vian Mulder, Keshav Maharaj, and Kagiso Rabada did not score. Shamarh Joseph continued his fine form, taking five wickets, while Seales claimed three wickets, with Jason Holder and Gudakesh Motie taking one wicket each.

In response, the West Indies struggled with their batting as well. Captain Kraigg Brathwaite scored three runs, Casey Carty made 26, Allick Athanaze managed just one run, and Keon Hodge, Joshua da Silva, and Motie scored four runs each. Micahel Louis failed to score, while Holder remained not out at 33 runs. For South Africa, besides Mulder's four wickets, Nandre Burger took two wickets, and Maharaj claimed one. On the second day, Holder aimed to bring the West Indies' innings closer to South Africa's score.
