Olympics24: Aman Sehrawat glorious fight brings bronze for India & 6th medal

India has secured yet another medal, this time a bronze, thanks to wrestler Aman Sehrawat. Competing in the 57 kg freestyle category, Aman defeated Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz with a score of 13-5 to claim the bronze medal. This victory brings India's sixth medal, with Aman delivering the country's first medal in wrestling.

In the semifinal match, Aman faced Japan's Rei Higuchi but couldn't withstand the challenge, losing 10-0. However, in the bronze medal match, Aman adopted an aggressive strategy from the start. Although he initially fell behind by one point, he quickly turned the tide, taking a two-point lead. Knowing that a small margin wouldn't suffice, he relentlessly pursued leg attacks.

Darian responded with a two-point counterattack, but Aman regained control with a takedown that earned him four points. With three minutes left in the bout, Aman was leading 6-3. As the match progressed, it became evident that Darian was growing fatigued from Aman's constant attacks. Seizing the opportunity, Aman intensified his leg attacks, eventually securing a decisive 13-5 victory and the bronze medal, adding another medal to India's tally.

Aman Sehrawat has now become the youngest Indian athlete to win a medal. Despite the disappointments of Vinesh Phogat and Nisha Dahiya, Aman has proudly hoisted the Indian flag on the Olympic stage.
