Olympics24 : India shrug off semi final loss with a bronze medal 2-1 win over Spain

Once again, India has secured a bronze medal in hockey. After the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian men's hockey team has won another bronze at the Paris Olympics. Harmanpreet Singh's two goals led India to a 2-1 victory over Spain.

Neither team scored in the first quarter. Spain got a penalty early in the second quarter, and their captain, Marc Miralles, scored in the 18th minute to put them ahead. Although India received a penalty corner, they couldn't equalize immediately. However, just before the end of the second quarter, India earned another penalty corner. In the 30th minute, Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh made no mistake in converting it into a goal.

In the third quarter, Harmanpreet Singh once again put India in the lead. He scored from another penalty corner in the 33rd minute, which ultimately decided the outcome of the match. In the last quarter as the minutes ticked by , Spain launched attack after attack in search of an equaliser and they also forced a few penalty corners but Indian defence stood upto the task and held firm . This hard earned victory brings India's 13th Olympic hockey medal home.

India lost to Germany in the semifinals with a score of 2-3. Harmanpreet and his team felt the absence of Avinash Rui Das, who couldn't play due to a red card he received in the quarterfinals. This absence made a significant difference in the match.

In the group stage, India had defeated New Zealand, Ireland, and Australia, drawn with Argentina, and lost to Belgium. They advanced to the quarterfinals, where they beat Great Britain in a thrilling tie-breaker. However, their semifinal defeat to Germany led them to the bronze medal match, where they emerged victorious, defeating Spain 2-1.
