Olympics24 : It is Djokovic v Alcaraz final once again after both won their SFs in straight sets
For the second time in three weeks, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz will vie for one of tennis's most prestigious prizes in the gold medal match at Roland Garros on Sunday. This match represents the latest chapter in their inter-generational rivalry, with the seasoned Djokovic, who leads in all-time tennis achievements, competing against the rising star Alcaraz, who currently dominates the sport.
Djokovic earned his spot in his first Olympic final by defeating Italy's Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-2, breaking his previous 0-3 record in Olympic semifinals.
Alcaraz showed even greater dominance with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime who was totally demolished
This final will be a rematch of the last two Wimbledon championships, both of which Alcaraz won, including their meeting three weeks ago. Alcaraz holds four Grand Slam titles, while Djokovic has 24.
Despite tearing the meniscus in his right knee and undergoing surgery on June 5 during the French Open, Djokovic appeared unaffected by his recent injury against Musetti, apart from being broken at the start of the second set. He quickly rebounded, winning six of the last seven games.
The scoreline of the Djokovic v Musetti match did not reflect the tough nature of the contest as Musetti threw several strong challenges to Djokovic but in the end the Serb prevailed .
After the match, Djokovic lay on his back on the court, relishing the moment and the prospect of winning a gold medal for Serbia in two days. This achievement would add to his already impressive resume, which includes 24 Grand Slam titles and the record for the most weeks ranked No. 1. Djokovic has often spoken about the significance of representing his country and his desire to surpass the bronze medal he won in 2008.
