NASA pictures reveals lightning on India city

The dark night sky is pierced by the faint, mist-covered lights of a city on one side. Nearby, boats drift across the river, their dim lights reminiscent of fireflies when seen from far above. Above it all, a bright blue halo appears, with its center shining intensely white. This is the scene depicted in a photo shared by NASA on social media. They revealed that this image, taken from the International Space Station, captures the night sky over India. But what exactly is happening over India?

No, it's not a rare phenomenon. This is simply an image of a lightning strike—specifically, a "single lightning strike." NASA astronaut Matthew Dominick, currently aboard the International Space Station, took this photo. Sharing it on NASA's official social media account, Matthew wrote, "Lightning at night over India. Whenever I capture lightning, I always use burst mode and hope the flash of light gets caught within the frame. I was thrilled when this lightning strike landed perfectly in the center of the frame, with no need for any cropping. This image captures an extraordinary view of Earth from space."

He also mentioned that the lights of the boats floating in the water are visible toward the bottom of the image. From space, they appear as small lines or streaks due to the camera's exposure time of 1/5 second. Since the Space Station is constantly moving in its orbit, the camera advanced slightly while the shutter was open, creating those light streaks. On the left side of the frame, the city lights appear blurred, likely due to a light mist and clouds obscuring the view, according to Matthew. However, NASA did not disclose which city in India is depicted.

NASA's social media accounts regularly post breathtaking images of the universe, capturing the imagination of space enthusiasts. This particular photo has garnered a lot of attention. Some netizens have commented, "Unbelievable photo!" or "I've never seen an image of lightning taken from space before." Others remarked, "This is one of the most captivating photos I've ever seen." One person reminded everyone that during the monsoon season, lightning in India tragically claims many lives across several states. Just a few days ago, lightning caused numerous deaths in Bihar. Thus, while this scene is beautiful, it is also terrifying—a striking blend of beauty and danger.
