Heavy rainfall in Uttarkhand in India leaves casualities

 



The death toll from heavy rains and landslides in Uttarakhand has risen to 12, with 50 people reported missing. The most affected areas include the districts of Haridwar, Tehri, Dehradun, and Chamoli, where numerous homes have been washed away and roads destroyed, leaving many missing.


According to the State Disaster Response Department, Haridwar has reported six fatalities, followed by Tehri with three deaths. Dehradun has recorded two deaths, and Chamoli one. In Haldwani and Chamoli, two people are missing. Dehradun's Superintendent of Police, Ajay Singh, mentioned that two individuals, Sundar Singh and Arjun Singh Rana, were swept away by the water current in the Raipur area, and their bodies were later recovered.


Heavy rainfall has inundated many areas of Dehradun, with the Meteorological Department reporting 172 millimeters of rain in the past 24 hours. The highest rainfall was recorded in Roshanabad, Haridwar, with 210 millimeters, followed by 163 millimeters in Raibala, 140 millimeters in Haldwani, 140 millimeters in Haridwar, 112 millimeters in Roorkee, and 89 millimeters in Nainital. The situation has worsened as the water level of the Mandakini River in Sonprayag has reached the danger mark. In Roorkee's Varpur village, Haridwar, four people died when a house collapsed due to heavy rain, and ten others were injured, with eight in critical condition.
