AO2025 : Swaitek crashes out ,Sabalenka and Keys to Face Off in womens Final

Aryna Sabalenka and Madison Keys will clash in the women’s final of the Australian Open. On Thursday, Sabalenka secured her spot in the final with a commanding 6-4, 6-2 straight-sets victory over Paula Badosa in the first semifinal. In the second semifinal, Madison Keys stunned fans with a hard-fought win over second seed Iga Świątek, defeating her 5-7, 6-1, 7-6. Keys saved match points and staged a remarkable comeback to book her place in the final.

The second semifinal extended past midnight in Melbourne, creating an electric atmosphere at Rod Laver Arena. When Świątek’s forehand went wide on match point, Keys leaped with joy, joined by an enthusiastic crowd. Former tennis player Casey Dellacqua, interviewing Keys post-match, remarked that it had been a long time since she witnessed such a thrilling women’s semifinal.

Before this match, Keys had only one win against Świątek and had lost four matches in straight sets. In the third set, Świątek led 6-5 and had a match point, but her backhand hit the net, allowing Keys to force a tiebreak. Keys triumphed in the 10-point tiebreak, completing an extraordinary victory.

In the first set, neither player could hold serve consistently in the initial games. Both Keys and Świątek repeatedly lost their service games. Świątek eventually held serve in the fifth game, taking a 5-2 lead. It seemed the Polish star would secure the set easily, but Keys fought back to make it 4-5. However, Świątek’s experience helped her clinch the opening set.

The second set saw a transformed Keys, while Świątek struggled. Keys dominated with powerful serves and forehands, leaving Świątek without answers. Keys carried this momentum into the deciding set, where both players fought fiercely, as expected in a Grand Slam semifinal. The third set ended 6-6, leading to a tiebreak, which provided more drama. Keys ultimately prevailed, celebrating an unforgettable win.

Earlier on Thursday morning, Aryna Sabalenka eased through her semifinal. The two-time Australian Open champion defeated Paula Badosa 6-4, 6-2, reaching the final for the third consecutive year. This victory marked Sabalenka’s 20th consecutive match win, including 11 straight wins this year.

Sabalenka is now just one win away from claiming three consecutive Australian Open titles. The last player to achieve this feat was Martina Hingis, who won from 1997 to 1999. Additionally, Sabalenka is the first player since Serena Williams to reach three consecutive Australian Open finals.

Against Badosa, Sabalenka improved her head-to-head record to 6-2. Although Badosa started well, taking a 2-0 lead, she could not maintain her momentum. Rain led to the partial closure of the Rod Laver Arena roof, but Sabalenka quickly adapted, breaking Badosa’s serve in the third game after trailing 40-0. That game lasted eight minutes, after which Sabalenka won four consecutive games to take a 4-2 lead. She never looked back, avoiding any further break points in the match.

Sabalenka’s dominance was evident as she hit 26 winners compared to Badosa’s eight. After the match, the Belarusian reflected, saying, “To come back from 0-2 and 0-40 and win the match felt incredible. It was an extraordinary match. Breaking her twice to lead 3-2 gave me the confidence that I was back in the game.”

The stage is now set for a thrilling final between two in-form players, with Sabalenka aiming to make history and Keys chasing her maiden Grand Slam title.
