AO2025 : Sinner beats Rune in 4 sets to reach QFs , Swaitek advances , Rybakina out

 


The 4th round of the Australian Open 2025 delivered thrilling tennis action, with defending champion Jannik Sinner advancing to the quarterfinals after defeating Holger Rune in a four-set battle.

Joining Sinner in the final eight is Ben Shelton, who progressed after Gael Monfils was forced to retire mid-match following three grueling tiebreak sets. Meanwhile, Lorenzo Sonego secured his spot with a hard-fought four-set victory over L. Tien, who couldn't replicate his earlier upset of Medvedev.

In the last men's singles match of the round, Alex De Minaur cruised past Alex Michelsen in straight sets, setting up an exciting quarterfinal clash with Sinner.

Women's Singles Matches
In the women’s draw, Iga Swiatek delivered a commanding performance, dispatching Germany's E. Lys in straight sets to comfortably secure her place in the quarterfinals.

One of the day’s biggest surprises came when Madison Keys edged out Elena Rybakina in a tense three-set encounter, knocking the 2022 Wimbledon champion out of the tournament.

Emma Navarro and Elina Svitolina also advanced to the quarterfinals with victories in their respective matches, adding further intrigue to the competition's next stage.
