IPL2025: QDK show helps KKR to outplay Rajasthan Royals for 1st points

Rajasthan Royals faced yet another defeat in the IPL, while defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders opened their account for the season. In the match played in Guwahati, Kolkata defeated Rajasthan by 8 wickets. Batting first, Rajasthan managed to score only 151 runs, which Kolkata chased down with ease. The star of Kolkata's victory was Quinton de Kock, who scored his first half-century for the team. De Kock played an unbeaten knock of 97 runs off 61 balls, narrowly missing a century. His innings were particularly special as the Guwahati pitch was not easy for batting. However, he held his ground and guided KKR to their first win of the season.

De Kock's Dominance Over Rajasthan

Batting on the Guwahati pitch was challenging, and KKR had a slow start during the powerplay, managing only 40 runs. The team reached 50 runs in 7.4 overs. Moeen Ali and Ajinkya Rahane (18) struggled, but de Kock remained unstoppable. He reached his half-century in 36 balls, hitting three sixes and five fours. Later, he built a crucial 50-run partnership with Angkrish (22*) in just 30 balls, sealing Rajasthan's fate in the match.

Rajasthan Royals' Disappointing Performance

Rajasthan's troubles began right from the toss. Although Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a quick start, Vaibhav Arora took the first breakthrough for KKR in the fourth over. After Samson's dismissal, Riyan Parag played an aggressive knock, but Jaiswal was dismissed for 29 runs. Varun Chakravarthy then removed Riyan Parag, who managed to score 25 runs. Nitish Rana contributed only 8 runs, while Wanindu Hasaranga added just 4. Dhruv Jurel tried to hold the innings together, scoring 33 runs, helping Rajasthan barely cross the 150-run mark.

Kolkata’s Spinners Steal the Show

KKR’s spinners played a crucial role in their victory. Varun Chakravarthy was the standout performer, conceding just 17 runs in his 4-over spell while taking 2 wickets. Moeen Ali also picked up 2 wickets for 23 runs. Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora chipped in with two wickets each, ensuring Rajasthan never got a chance to build momentum.
