IPL2025 : Pooran overshadows Head as LSG stuns SRH , Shardul scalps 4

Sunrisers Hyderabad, who had started their IPL 2025 campaign with a win, faced a major setback in their very next match. Lucknow Super Giants handed them a crushing defeat, securing a comfortable victory on Hyderabad’s home ground. Batting first, Hyderabad posted a total of 190 runs in 20 overs, but Lucknow chased it down with ease. The heroes of Lucknow’s triumph were Shardul Thakur with the ball and Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh with the bat. Thakur picked up four wickets, while Pooran and Marsh both scored half-centuries.

Shardul Thakur’s Early Strikes Rock Hyderabad

Lucknow’s captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first. Hyderabad, considered capable of even crossing the 300-run mark, was quickly brought back to reality by Shardul Thakur. In his second over, Thakur dismissed Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan on consecutive deliveries, giving Lucknow a dream start. However, Travis Head fought back with some breathtaking shots, smashing several sixes as Hyderabad raced to 62 runs in the powerplay. But once Head was dismissed, things took a turn for the worse.

Head, who was bowled for 47 by Prince Yadav, was the backbone of Hyderabad’s innings. After his departure, the team struggled. Reddy contributed 32 runs, while Heinrich Klaasen was unfortunate to be run out for 26. Aniket Verma provided a late flourish with five sixes in a 13-ball 36-run cameo, but Hyderabad could only reach 190 runs.

Pooran & Marsh Demolish Hyderabad’s Bowling

While Hyderabad’s batting was widely discussed, Lucknow’s batting firepower seemed underestimated. Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran proved their destructive abilities, dismantling Hyderabad’s bowling attack. After the early dismissal of Aiden Markram, both batsmen went on a rampage. Pooran smashed the fastest fifty of the season, reaching the milestone in just 18 balls.

The duo added 50 runs in just 19 balls and brought up a 100-run partnership in just 37 deliveries. Lucknow raced to the 100-run mark in only 7.3 overs, making Hyderabad’s defeat inevitable. Marsh also played a brilliant knock, scoring a half-century off 29 balls. Pooran finished with a stunning 70 off 26 balls, while Marsh contributed 52 off 31. Lucknow comfortably sealed the victory by five wickets, marking their first win of the season and opening their account in the points table.
