IPL2025 : Krunal , Salt fires RCB to convincing win over reigning champs KKR in season opener
The IPL season 2025 starts on a breathtaking note for Royal Challengers Bangaluru as they jolt Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets at the home ground of the reigning champions. Krunal Pandya , Phil Salt , Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar played their parts well as the Bangalore outfit start the season on a winning note .
Batting first after losing the toss , KKR was rattled early with Quinton DeKock (4) departing early to Josh Hazlewood but skipper Ajinkya Rahane came out all guns blazing and started playing breathtaking leg side pulls & hoicks to make full utilisation of the powerplay . Sunil Narine took some time to get going but soon started playing aggressively as KKR reached 100 by the 9th over . Finally Narine fell to Rasik Salam for 44 off 26 balls with 3 sixes as KKR reach 107/2 .
Rahane played dazzling shots all round the wicket before finally falling to Krunal Pandya for 56 off 31 balls hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes in a spectacular batting display . And Rahane's & Narine's dismissals suddenly led to a batting slump as KKR began losing wickets with Venkatesh Iyer (6) , Rinku Singh ( 12) & Russell (4) falling in a heap . KKR slumped from 107/1 to 150/6 as 5 wickets fell for 43 runs . Angkrish Raghuvanshi (30) tried to repair the slump but the RCB spin duo of Krunal Pandya (3/29) & Suyash Sharma (1/47) and checked the KKR middle overs all. At the end Josh Hazlewood (2/22) bowled well to restrict KKR to 174/8 from a possible high of a 220 .
With a moderate total to chase given the easy batting conditions, RCB came out with positive intent and Phil Salt launched a fierce assault on the KKR bowling .He was well supported by Virat Kohli . Salt took apart his old KKR teammates in the powerplay as RCB was scoring at rapid pace . Varun Chakravarty 's first over went for 21 as RCB rattled up 80 in the powerplay overs which almost settled the result of the game .
Kohli who was struggling with his timing initially also came into his own with two glorious back to back straight lofted sixes off Spencer Johnson . Salt played sparkling shots as RCB looked in total control of the chase with the KKR bowling not been able to create any impression. Salt finally departed for 56 in 41 balls after a 95 run rapid stand with Kohli. Paddikal (10) was out cheaply to Ashwin but new skipper Rajat Patidar came out and slammed a rapid 34 in 16 balls .His dismissal brought in Livingstone (15*) who along with Virat Kohli (59*) ensured that RCB complete the chase quickly in 16.2 overs with 7 wickets in hand . Varun Chakravarty, Narine & Vaibhav took 1 wickets each.
Krunal Pandya for his brilliant bowling was the player of the match .
