IPL2025 : CSK outplayed MI as Noor , Rachin shines
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started their IPL 2025 campaign with a resounding win against Mumbai Indians on March 23 at Chepauk by 4 wickets . Right from the first match of the season, CSK showcased their dominance, excelling in both bowling and batting to comprehensively defeat Mumbai. Winning the toss, CSK's captain opted to field first, a decision that proved highly effective as their bowlers restricted Mumbai to a modest total of 155 runs. Chennai then comfortably chased down the target with five balls to spare, opening their account on the points table in style.
CSK’s chase was made effortless by captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra, whose stellar performances ensured a smooth pursuit of the 156-run target. After Tripathy departed cheaply , Gaikwad played an explosive knock of 53 runs off just 26 balls at a strike rate of 202, while Rachin remained unbeaten with a well-crafted 65 runs off 45 balls at a strike rate of 144, sealing the victory for his team. CSK did have some tight moments in the chase as MI bowlers fought well to defend a below par target . Rookie spinner Vignesh Putur took 3 wickets in the middle overs as Dube(9) , Hooda (3) , Curran (4) departed cheaply but Jadeja (17) before getting run out stayed long enough with Rachin to ensure the win .
However, the standout performer of the match was Noor Ahmad. His exceptional spin bowling dismantled Mumbai’s batting lineup, preventing them from posting a big score. Player of the match Noor delivered a match-winning spell, conceding just 18 runs in his four overs while taking four crucial wickets. His victims included Mumbai captain Suryakumar Yadav (29) , Tilak Varma (31) , Robin Minz (3) , and Naman Dhir. By dismantling both the top and middle order, Noor effectively crippled Mumbai’s batting attack. Earlier Khaleel Ahmed with his left arm pace dismissed Rohit (0) & Rickleton (13) cheaply to rattle MI top order while Ashwin dismissed Jacks for 11 . MI looked likely to reach a below par score but Deepak Chahar played a swashbuckling knock of 28 in 15 balls to provide some respectibility. Struggling on Chennai's slow pitch, Mumbai could only manage 155 runs for the loss of eight wickets, ultimately falling short against a dominant CSK performance.
