Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals Match Abandoned in Dharamshala Following Pak drone attack in Jammu

The IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala was abandoned following a security scare triggered by Pakistan  drone attack in Jammu which is 200 kms away from Dharamshala . The stadium lights were turned off, and spectators were asked to vacate the stadium . Subsequently, the decision was made to cancel the match.

According to the BCCI, the lights were switched off due to a power outage in the area surrounding the stadium, which ultimately led to the abandonment of the game.

Dharamshala had been scheduled to host another match earlier, but that fixture had already been relocated to Mumbai . However, strangely the  thursday’s game was not moved. During the match, reports of explosions began emerging from Jammu. Sirens were heard in areas like Akhnoor and Samba, and multiple rockets were reportedly launched from across the international border with Pakistan. The region was put under complete blackout.

Security agency sources revealed that on Thursday night, India intercepted and destroyed eight missiles launched by Pakistan, targeting areas such as Jammu Airport, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia, and surrounding regions. India’s S-400 air defence system was reportedly used to neutralize the threat. Two Pakistani drones were also shot down near Jammu University.

Before the match was halted, Punjab Kings had won the toss and opted to bat first. They had reached 122 runs in 10.1 overs, with Prabhsimran Singh scoring a fluent unbeaten 50 off 28 balls and Priyansh Arya contributing a breathtaking 70 off 34 balls including 5 fours & 6 sixes before being dismissed by Natarajan . A win would have secured Punjab Kings a spot in the playoffs, but the match was ultimately abandoned due to the unfolding situation.

It was really strange by BCCI not to relocate the Delhi Punjab game earlier specially as a subsequent game in Dharamshala was relocated in view of increasing tensions around the border region and hostilities across the Border .
