IPL2025 : RCB storm in the final by decimating Punjab Kings by 8 wkts
Royal Challengers Bangalore have finally achieved what millions of RCB fans had been dreaming of — they’ve secured a spot in the IPL 2025 final!
In the first qualifier, RCB delivered a dominant performance, crushing Punjab Kings with ease. The heroes of Bangalore’s victory were Josh Hazlewood, Suyash Sharma, and Phil Salt. Hazlewood and Suyash both picked up 3 wickets each with exceptional bowling, dismantling Punjab’s batting order. Then came Phil Salt, who smashed a blistering half-century off just 23 balls, completely shattering Punjab’s hopes of reaching the final.
This marks the fourth time RCB has reached an IPL final — and notably, it’s their first time in nine years, with their last final appearance dating back to 2016.
Record-breaking victory in IPL playoff history
RCB has now registered the biggest win in IPL playoff history. They clinched the match with a staggering 60 balls (10 overs) to spare — the largest margin of victory by balls remaining in any IPL playoff game. For comparison, last year KKR defeated Chennai with 57 balls left, KKR also had a 38-ball win over Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier, Mumbai won with 33 balls to spare in 2017, and back in 2008, Chennai beat Punjab with 31 balls remaining.
Batting first, Punjab were bowled out in just 84 balls, managing to score only 101 runs. In reply, RCB chased down the target effortlessly, thanks largely to Phil Salt’s unbeaten 56 off 27 balls.
RCB captain opted to bowl first after winning the toss — a decision that proved decisive on the tricky Mullanpur pitch. From the second over itself, Punjab found themselves in deep trouble. On just the eighth ball of the match, Priyansh Arya was dismissed by Yash Dayal. In the following over, Prabhsimran Singh fell to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Then Hazlewood delivered the killer blows, removing Josh Inglis and Shreyas Iyer. Yash Dayal returned to dismiss Nehal Wadhera, leaving Punjab reeling at 50 for 5.
Suyash Sharma then tore through Punjab’s middle order, taking out Shashank Singh, Marcus Stoinis, and Musheer Khan. Before long, the entire Punjab side was bundled out for 101 — a total far too low to trouble RCB. Riding on Salt’s explosive knock, Bangalore raced to victory without breaking a sweat.
