IPL2025 : Abhishek Sharma powers SRH to convincing win over LSG
In the 61st match of IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad registered a comfortable victory against Lucknow Super Giants. The match was held at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, where Sunrisers successfully chased down a target of 206 runs to claim their fourth win of the season. With this defeat, all hopes for Lucknow Super Giants to reach the playoffs came to an end, eliminating them from the tournament. This marked their seventh loss of the season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opted to bowl first. Lucknow Super Giants posted a total of 205 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram laid a strong foundation with a 115-run opening partnership. Marsh started in full throttle smashing his Aussie counterpart Pat Cummins for a 4 & a pulled 6 in the very first over & continued the onslaught on other bowlers in breathtaking fashion while Markram gradually opened up and started hitting magnificent shots . Marsh scored a dazzling 65 runs, while Markram contributed a sparkling 61. Nicholas Pooran added late momentum with a quickfire 45 off 26 balls at a strike rate of 173.07. However, Sunrisers bowlers managed to slow down the scoring in the middle overs by taking regular wickets. Eshan Malinga was the pick of the bowlers for Hyderabad, finishing with figures of 2/28 in 4 overs. Harsh Dubey, Harshal Patel, and Nitish Kumar Reddy each took a wicket as well.
In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to a flying start despite Head's absence due to covid ill. Abhishek Sharma turned the game in Hyderabad’s favour early on with a blistering knock of 59 runs off just 20 balls. His sublime & effortless shots were thrilling to watch. Alongside Ishan Kishan, he helped the team score rapidly in the powerplay. Though Digvijay Rathi dismissed Abhishek in the 7.3rd over, Sunrisers’ batting unit continued the momentum. Ishan Kishan contributed 35 runs from 28 balls, while Heinrich Klaasen (47) and Kamindu Mendis (32) guided the team home comfortably. As a result, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the match by 6 wickets.
The season has been a difficult one for Lucknow Super Giants. The poor form of key players like Rishabh Pant and David Miller consistently hurt the team’s performance. Nicholas Pooran, despite a strong start to the season, couldn’t maintain consistency. Moreover, their bowling—especially during the powerplay—has been one of the weakest in the tournament. Injuries also hampered their campaign, with pace spearhead Mayank Yadav managing to play only a handful of matches.
