IPL2025 : Rajasthan Royals end IPL season with a win over CSK , Vaibhav shines
In a formality match of the IPL, Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings by six wickets. Batting first, MS Dhoni’s team posted 187 for 8. In response, Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan chased down the target in just 17.1 overs, finishing at 188 for 4. It was the composed and mature batting from 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi that outshone the 43-year-old Dhoni and his Chennai side.
Playing his seventh IPL match, Vaibhav has shown rapid growth and maturity on the field. On Tuesday at the Delhi ground, he didn’t go for big shots right away. Instead, he took time to settle in, carefully assessing the pitch conditions. After scoring just 12 runs off his first 10 balls, Vaibhav opened up his game. He chose to go after CSK’s key bowlers—Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Noor Ahmad. Against all three, Vaibhav displayed aggressive yet technically sound batting, playing a wide range of cricketing shots. It felt as though he was putting Dhoni’s tactical brain to the test. Even the experience of Ashwin and Jadeja couldn't rattle the young batter. At one point, Dhoni himself appeared somewhat bewildered by Vaibhav's dominance.
Vaibhav maintained his composure throughout, avoiding unnecessary risks. However, shortly after Sanju Samson was dismissed, Vaibhav too had to depart. Still, his 33-ball 57-run knock, laced with four fours and four sixes, left a lasting impact. Rajasthan Royals coach Rahul Dravid was seen rising to his feet and applauding the youngster as he walked off, clearly pleased with his protégé’s performance.
Vaibhav also received strong support from two senior players—Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson. Jaiswal set the tone of the chase with a brisk 36 off just 19 deliveries, including five fours and two sixes. But it was the 98-run second-wicket partnership between Sanju (41 off 31) and Vaibhav that built the foundation for Rajasthan’s win. Though Ashwin briefly stirred hope for CSK by taking two quick wickets, it was short-lived. Dhruv Jurel (31* off 12) and Shimron Hetmyer (12* off 5) finished things off with 17 balls to spare.
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings managed 187 for 8 in their 20 overs. Most of CSK’s batters once again failed to rise to the occasion. Opener Ayush Matre (43 off 20), Dewald Brevis (42 off 25), and Shivam Dube (39 off 32) were the only ones who put up some resistance. Coming in at number eight, Dhoni himself couldn’t accelerate in the final overs, finishing with 16 off 17 balls. Matre looked in explosive touch in his glorious knock and after CSK looked in big trouble at 78/5 , Brevis rose to the occasion with a dazzling 42 runs to revive CSK hopes . After Yudhvir of Rajasthan Royals took 3 early wickets it was Akash Madhwal who restricted CSK in the final few overs with 3/29 to become the player of the match .
