Paris Saint-Germain reach Champions League Final with 3-1 aggregate victory over Arsenal
Paris Saint-Germain booked their spot in the UEFA Champions League final with a 2-1 win over Arsenal in the second leg of their semi-final on Wednesday, sealing a 3-1 aggregate triumph. Goals from Fabián Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi at the Parc des Princes secured PSG's passage to the final in Munich on May 31 (June 1 IST), where they will face Inter Milan.
The French side entered the match with a 1-0 lead from the first leg, courtesy of Ousmane Dembélé’s goal in London. Despite early pressure from Arsenal, PSG weathered the storm and gradually took control. Fabián Ruiz opened the scoring in the 27th minute, lashing home a left-footed shot from the edge of the box after a free-kick was partially cleared by Thomas Partey.
Before the goal, Arsenal had made a promising start. With Thomas Partey back from suspension, the visitors dominated the opening exchanges. Declan Rice narrowly missed with a header, while Gianluigi Donnarumma produced key saves to deny Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Ødegaard within the first ten minutes.
PSG began to settle and almost struck in the 17th minute when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia hit the post. Shortly after, Desire Doue was denied by David Raya from close range. Eventually, Ruiz’s strike gave PSG a deserved lead.
Arsenal continued to fight and came close again in the second half, but Donnarumma tipped a Bukayo Saka effort wide in the 64th minute. Just minutes later, PSG were awarded a controversial penalty after a VAR review deemed Myles Lewis-Skelly had handled a shot from Hakimi. Vitinha stepped up but was denied by Raya, keeping Arsenal's hopes alive.
However, Hakimi dashed any comeback dreams in the 72nd minute, firing home after being set up by substitute Dembélé to make it 2-0. Although Saka quickly responded with a goal to bring it to 2-1 on the night, he squandered a golden opportunity moments later, blazing over an open goal from Riccardo Calafiori’s cross.
The miss ensured there would be no late drama, and PSG held firm to reach only the second Champions League final in their history, five years after their 2020 loss to Bayern Munich.
