IPL2025 : Romario, Dayal powers RCB to an epic 2 run win over CSK in a thriller

Royal Challengers Bangalore edged out Chennai Super Kings by 2 runs in a thrilling contest on Saturday. The 52nd match of IPL 2025 was played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where RCB, after opting to bat first, posted a formidable total of 213 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs. In reply, Chennai Super Kings fell just short, scoring 211 for 5, losing the match on the final ball. This marked RCB’s eighth win of the season, bringing Rajat Patidar’s side closer to a playoff berth. Meanwhile, CSK suffered their ninth defeat of the campaign.

Chasing a target of 214, CSK got off to a solid start through Rashid and Ayush. Rashid scored 14 off 11 balls before getting out, with the pair adding 51 runs for the opening wicket. Sam Curran was dismissed by Lungi Ngidi after scoring just 5 off 5 balls. Ayush then stitched a crucial 114-run partnership for the third wicket with Ravindra Jadeja. 17 year old Ayush Mhatre  played a brilliant knock of 94 off 48 balls. He executed breathtaking strokes all around the ground that had the CSK fans on their feet . Dewald Brevis was dismissed for a duck - a poor lbw decision which the batters delayed to review & was timed out , and both he and Ayush were sent back in the same over by Ngidi. MS Dhoni contributed 11 runs off 8 balls, while Jadeja, who batted very well during his stand with Mhatre  remained unbeaten on 77 off 45 balls but couldnt finish the game in the last couple of overs . Shivam Dube chipped in with 8 runs off 3 deliveries. CSK needed 15 runs in the final over, but Yash Dayal held his nerve, conceding only 11 and dismissing Dhoni in the process.

Earlier, RCB got off to a flying start thanks to Jacob Bethell and Virat Kohli, who put on a rollicking 97-run opening stand and had the strong RCB crowd cheering vociferously. Bethell scored an explosive 55 off 33 deliveries, while Kohli smashed a glorious  62 off 33 balls, including five fours and five sixes. Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed by Pathirana for 17 runs off 15 balls. Jitesh Sharma added 7 runs, while captain Rajat Patidar made 11 off 15 deliveries. The innings was powered by a blistering knock from Romario Shepherd, who scored an unbeaten 53 off just 14 balls, hitting six sixes and four fours and his plundering of 33 runs in Khaleel Ahmed's 19th over set up a very good RCB total .
