IPL2025 : Punjab Kings outplayed Lucknow Super Giants by 37 Runs , Prabsimran shines
The 54th match of IPL 2025 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was played in Dharamshala, where Punjab delivered a dominant performance to defeat Lucknow by 37 runs. Despite losing the toss, PBKS were invited to bat first — a decision LSG would later regret. Prabhsimran Singh unleashed a storm with the bat, powering Punjab to a massive total of 236 runs in their 20 overs. In response, LSG crumbled under the scoreboard pressure and managed only 199 runs. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, PBKS clinched the win convincingly.
Prabhsimran and Arshdeep Steal the Show
LSG skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first, but it backfired as Punjab’s batting order came out blazing. Opener Prabhsimran Singh set the tone with a blistering knock. He scored 91 runs off just 48 balls at a strike rate of 189, smashing 7 sixes and 6 fours in the process. His aggressive start set the stage for others to capitalize.
Captain Shreyas Iyer played a quickfire innings of 45 runs off 25 balls. Shashank Singh added further firepower with 33 runs off 15 balls at a strike rate of 220. Josh Inglis smashed 30 off 14, Nehal Wadhera chipped in with 16 off 9, and Marcus Stoinis added a quick 15 off 5. Punjab posted a formidable total of 237/5 in their 20 overs.
Arshdeep’s Lethal Spell Breaks LSG’s Backbone
When it was time to defend the total, Arshdeep Singh led the bowling attack with precision and aggression. In his first spell, he bowled 3 overs, conceding just 10 runs and picking up 3 crucial wickets — Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran. These early breakthroughs derailed LSG’s chase. Arshdeep ended with figures of 4-0-16-3, effectively sealing the game for Punjab.
LSG Falter Across Departments
It was an all-round poor performance from the Rishabh Pant-led LSG. Their bowlers were hammered all over the park — Mayank Yadav conceded 60 runs in 4 overs, Avesh Khan gave away 47, Digvesh Rathi 46, and Prince Yadav 43. Only Akash Maharaj Singh showed some control, conceding 30 runs and taking 2 wickets. Rathi and Prince Yadav also took 2 and 1 wickets respectively.
In the batting department, the top order failed miserably. Mitchell Marsh was dismissed for a duck, Aiden Markram managed just 13, and Pooran was out for 6. Pant continued his struggle for form, scoring only 18 off 17 balls, while David Miller added just 11 off 8. Ayush Badoni offered some resistance with a valiant 74 off 40 balls at a strike rate of 185, and Abdul Samad contributed 45 off 24. However, their efforts weren’t enough to chase down the massive total.
