IPL2025 : RCB overcome huge target to beat LSG & finish at top 2 in points table

The 70th match of IPL 2025 turned out to be a historic one for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Chasing a massive target of 228 runs against Lucknow Super Giants, RCB not only secured a remarkable victory but also finished in the top two of the league stage, further strengthening their playoff position. This chase became the highest successful run chase in RCB’s IPL history. With this win, RCB booked their ticket to Qualifier 1 against Punjab Kings, giving them two chances to reach the final.

Batting first, Lucknow Super Giants put up a mammoth total of 227 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Captain Rishabh Pant played a sensational knock, remaining unbeaten on 118 runs off 61 balls, while Mitchell Marsh contributed a valuable 67 runs. After losing Breetzke (14) Marsh and Pant got into a glorious  stand for LSG . For RCB, Nuwan , Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Romario Shepherd picked up a wicket each. Though this score seemed challenging for any side, RCB not only accepted the challenge but conquered it in style.

RCB’s batting left everyone stunned during the chase. Virat Kohli (54 in 30 balls)  once again showcased his class, not only guiding the team to victory but also setting a world record by becoming the first player to score 9000 T20 runs for a single franchise (RCB). Alongside him, Phil Salt played an explosive innings, contributing 30 runs. The RCB openers gave a fiery start, the middle order absorbed the pressure, and the finishers delivered aggressive blows to seal the chase.  Skipper Rajat Patidar (14) & Livingstone (0) fell cheaply & Kohli exited at 124/4 when it looked that LSG will win comfortably .

Then RCB had the brilliant 100 plus partnership between Mayank Agarwal & Jitesh Sharma . Mayank started to play sparkling shots in his superb 41 run knock but it was Jitesh Sharma who came out all guns blazing with a breathtaking innings of 85 in 33 balls full of explosive strokeplay that totally decimated the LSG bowling . The onslaught by Jitesh was so brutal that RCB completed the win in the 19th over by 6 wickets.

With this victory, RCB finished in the top two of the league stage — a major achievement. Finishing in the top two means they now face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1. The winner of this match will go straight to the final, while the loser gets another shot in Qualifier 2. This double chance offers RCB a golden opportunity as they continue their long quest for their maiden IPL trophy.
