IPL2025 : Ishan Kishan & bowlers powers SRH to big win over favourites RCB
In IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a 42-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), led by captain Pat Cummins. Despite the loss, RCB has already secured a spot in the playoffs. However, in order to finish in the top two on the points table, they needed to win both of their remaining matches. Now, their final position will depend on the outcomes of other teams' matches.
Batting first, SRH posted a massive total of 231 runs. In response, RCB was well-placed at 163 for 3 after 14 overs. However, a sudden collapse saw them bowled out for 189 in the final over.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 94 runs off 48 balls, smashing seven fours and five sixes in a dazzling batting display. He was well-supported by Abhishek Sharma (34 off 17), Heinrich Klaasen (24 off 13), Aniket Verma (26 off 9), and Travis Head (17 off 10), all of whom kept RCB bowlers under pressure with aggressive hitting. Openers Head & Abhishek started explosively as usual & after both were dismissed Ishan Kishan & Klaasem continued their power hitting in explosive style .
Among the RCB bowlers, Romario Shepherd was the most effective for SRH, claiming two wickets for just 14 runs in his two overs. Bhubaneshwar Kumar, Lungi Ngidi, Suyash Sharma, and Krunal Pandya took one wicket each but all of them leaked runs.
For RCB, Phil Salt led the chase with a quickfire explosive 62 off 32 balls, including four fours and five sixes. He shared a strong 80-run opening stand with Virat Kohli, who scored 43 off 25 balls. However, the middle-order failed to capitalize on the solid start. Mayank Agarwal (11) went cheaply while Patidar (18) & Jitesh (24) flattered to deceive. . For SRH, skipper Pat Cummins took three wickets while Ishan Malinga picked up two as the bowlers found their lengths after initial drubbing and bowled superbly in the last 5 overs .
This win was SRH’s fifth in 13 matches, and they remain out of playoff contention. RCB, with eight wins from 13 matches and 17 points, now sits third on the table.
