IPL2025: KL Rahul 100 in vain as Gujarat Titans outplay Delhi Capitals in a 200 chase
Under the leadership of captain Shubman Gill, Gujarat Titans continued their impressive form and sealed their spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs. Powered by a stunning century from Sai Sudharsan and a commanding 93-run knock from skipper Gill, Gujarat chased down a 200-run target without losing a wicket, defeating Delhi Capitals by 10 wickets in a one-sided contest.
The match took place on Sunday, May 18, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Batting first, Delhi Capitals put up 199 runs on the board, thanks to a magnificent unbeaten century from KL Rahul. Opening the innings, Rahul (112* off 65 balls, 14 fours, 4 sixes) held one end firm, accelerating after a slow start. He got some support from Abhishek Porel (30) and captain Axar Patel (25), but none of them managed to convert their starts into big scores or maintain a high strike rate. Rahul brought up his half-century in 35 balls and completed his century in the 19th over off 60 deliveries. Tristan Stubbs added some quick runs at the end, scoring 21 off just 10 balls, helping the team reach 199. For Gujarat, Arshad Khan bowled a tight spell, giving away just 7 runs and picking up a wicket.
In response, Gujarat Titans came out all guns blazing. In stark contrast to Delhi’s slow start (19 runs in 4 overs), Sudharsan and Gill smashed 49 runs in their first four overs. This blistering start made a huge difference in the match. Sudharsan took the attack to T. Natarajan in the second over, hitting him for 3 fours and a six to collect 20 runs. He never looked back and reached his half-century in just 30 balls. Gill, playing a more composed innings initially, picked up pace and notched his fifty in 33 balls.
Delhi’s bowlers had no answers as the Gujarat openers dismantled their attack. Sudharsan reached his second IPL century off 56 balls and sealed the win with a six on the final ball of the 19th over. Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 93 (7 sixes, 3 fours), narrowly missing out on a century. Gujarat’s 10-wicket win is the biggest chase in IPL history without losing a wicket. Sudharsan was named Player of the Match for his brilliant 108* off 61 balls, including 12 boundaries and 4 sixes.
