UEFA nations league : Spain Dominate Serbia, Portugal Held to Draw, Poland Stages comeback

Spain cruised into the Nations League quarter-finals with a convincing 3-0 victory over Serbia, thanks to goals from Aymeric Laporte, Álvaro Morata, and Alex Baena. Despite missing key players from their Euro 2024 triumph, Spain controlled the game, amassing 30 shots to Serbia’s three. Laporte opened the scoring with a header in the fifth minute, followed by Morata’s second after an earlier penalty miss. Serbia’s Strahinja Pavlović received a late red card, and Baena’s brilliant free kick completed the scoreline. Spain now tops League A Group One with 10 points, three ahead of Denmark and six clear of Serbia.

Portugal moved closer to a quarter-final spot with a 0-0 draw against Scotland, despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances. Cristiano Ronaldo missed a key opportunity, and Scotland’s goalkeeper Craig Gordon made several crucial saves to deny Portugal. Portugal leads Group A1 with 10 points, three ahead of Croatia, who played out a dramatic 3-3 draw with Poland.

Poland staged a thrilling comeback after falling two goals behind to Croatia, eventually securing a 3-3 draw. Piotr Zieliński scored early for Poland, but Croatia responded with three quick goals. Poland’s Nicola Zalewski and Sebastian Szymański leveled the game, but despite Croatia’s Dominik Livaković being sent off, Poland couldn’t capitalize. Croatia remains second in Group A1 with seven points, while Poland is third.

In another match, Denmark and Switzerland drew 2-2, with Christian Eriksen playing a key role for Denmark. Switzerland initially led through Remo Freuler, but Eriksen set up Gustav Isaksen for the equalizer. A penalty from Zeki Amdouni restored Switzerland’s lead, but Eriksen again leveled the score. The draw leaves Denmark second in Group A4 with seven points, while Switzerland remains bottom despite securing their first point.
