Sajid Khan leads Pakistan fightback as Eng struggle on day 3 of 2nd test

 


Pakistan made a strong comeback in the second Test against England in Multan. On the third day, Pakistan bowled England out for 291 runs. England's last eight wickets fell for just 80 runs. After gaining a 75-run lead in the first innings, Pakistan scored 221 in their second innings, setting England a target of 297 runs to win. By the end of the third day, both of England's opening batsmen had returned to the pavilion, with just 36 runs on the board.


In England's first innings, Pakistan's spinner Sajid Khan took 7 wickets, while left-arm spinner Nauman Ali picked up 3 wickets, bowling England out for 291. Ben Duckett was England’s top scorer with 114 runs, and Jack Leach added an unbeaten 25. Despite losing 9 wickets for 262 runs, England managed to stretch their score to 291.


Since this pitch was used in the first test at the same venue , on 8th day there is enough wear & tear for the spinnners to come into play and so it proved as Bashir & Leach dominated Pakistani 2nd innings with a flurry of wickets 


Pakistan’s second innings started poorly, with Abdullah Shafique getting out for just 4 runs and captain Shan Masood scoring only 11. Kamran Ghulam, who had scored a century in the first innings, managed 26 runs before getting a ball from Leach which spun in & he was lbw  . Saud Shakeel (31) and Rizwan (23) provided small but useful contributions before getting out . Agha Salman contributed a half-century with 63 runs. Pakistan was struggling at 156-8 before Salman and Sajid Khan added 65 runs for the ninth wicket. Sajid scored 22 runs. For England, Shoaib Bashir took 4 wickets, while Jack Leach claimed 3 in the innings.


In the fourth innings, England needs another 261 runs to win. Ollie Pope (21) and Joe Root (12) are at the crease. Jack Crawley (3) was dismissed by Nauman Ali stumped , and Duckett fell for a duck to Sajid Khan trying to sweep as the ball balooned to the keeper . Pakistan needs 8 more wickets to win the match.
