India outclassed Sri Lanka to keep their hopes alive in WT20I World cup

India remains in contention at the Women's T20 World Cup after a dominant win over Sri Lanka, following their victory against Pakistan. With a comprehensive 82-run win on Wednesday, India kept their hopes alive for a semifinal spot. The stars of the match were Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, both of whom scored crucial half-centuries.

India's World Cup campaign is such that they must win every match, and not just win, but win by a significant margin. Aware of this, Harmanpreet chose to bat first after winning the toss in Dubai. Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave India a solid start. Mandhana, who hadn’t scored in the first two matches, found her form in this game. The Indian openers quickly accumulated runs, putting together a 98-run partnership in 12.4 overs. Mandhana reached her fifty in just 37 balls before being run out.

Immediately after, Shafali was dismissed for 43. Despite the back-to-back wickets, Harmanpreet ensured the run rate didn’t drop. Her innings showed why she is still considered one of the most destructive batters in this format. The captain scored a blistering 52 off 27 balls, hitting eight fours and one six. With her knock, India posted a strong total of 172 for 3 in 20 overs.

In response, Sri Lanka’s chase faltered from the start. Renuka Singh Thakur struck with her second delivery, setting the tone. Sri Lanka was heavily reliant on their captain, Chamari Athapaththu, but she was dismissed for just 1 run by Shreyanka Patil. Renuka and Shreyanka took early wickets with the new ball, while Arundhati è and Asha Shobana cleaned up the middle and lower order with the older ball. Sri Lanka's batters struggled to stay at the crease.

Eventually, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 90 in 19.5 overs, giving India an 82-run victory. With this win, India leapfrogged New Zealand and Pakistan to move into second place in the points table, bringing Harmanpreet’s team back into the race for the semifinals.

Meanwhile in another similar one sided match at Dubai , South Africa thrashed Scotland by 80 runs . Batting first South Africa made 166/6 with the help of 40s from Wolvaardt (40) , Brits (43) and Kapp (43 in 24 balls) . In reply Scotland just could not withstand the high quality South Africa bowling and wer all out for 86 . For the Kiwis Mlaba took 3 wickets . Kapp was player of the match .
