Sundar takes 7 wickets but NZ hit back after being dismissed for 259 on day one of 2nd test
The second Test match between India and New Zealand is being played in Pune. New Zealand's captain, Tom Latham, won the toss and chose to bat first. In their first innings, New Zealand scored a total of 259 runs, with Devon Conway being the top scorer. Conway played a steady innings of 76 runs off 141 balls, while Rachin Ravindra added 65 runs. For India, Washington Sundar delivered a stellar bowling performance, claiming 7 wickets in the first innings.
After winning the toss and opting to bat, New Zealand's team was all out for 259 runs. Opener Tom Latham was dismissed LBW by Ravichandran Ashwin after scoring 15 runs from 22 balls. Conway reached his fifty in 109 balls and was eventually dismissed for 76 that included some glorious drives through the off side . Rachin Ravindra played a sublime & effortless innings, but other batsmen failed to make a significant impact. Washington Sundar took 7 wickets, including the key dismissals of Glenn Phillips, Tom Blundell, and others, which limited New Zealand to 259 runs. Sundar was the reason for New Zealand collapse after a good pre lunch session.
Sundar's exceptional bowling saw him take a total of 7 wickets. His first breakthrough came with the dismissal of the dangerous Rachin Ravindra, followed by Tom Blundell, Daryl Mitchell (18) , Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner (33) , and Ajaz Patel. Ravichandran Ashwin contributed with 3 dismissals that included the 1st two dismissals .
At the end of the first day's play, India had scored 16 runs. Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck by Tim Southee off a ball that moved slightlyaway to take the top of off stump . Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are at the crease and will resume batting on the second day. It remains to be seen how many runs Team India can accumulate on Day 2 as the pitch is spinning and the visitors have quality spinners up their sleeve .
