New Zealand wrap up 1st test vs India by 8 wickets & lead series 1-0
As expected New Zealand wrapped up the first test match at Bangaluru by 8 wickets to script their 1st test win on Indian soil after 36 years . There were no heroics today by the Indian bowling though Bumrah bowled his heart out and started the 5th day on an encouraging note .
Bowling the last two balls of his unfinished 1st over since last evening ,Bumrah trapped Latham lbw (0) on his 2nd ball of the day and the Kiwi captain's review only delayed the inevitable .
Both Siraj and Bumrah asked tough questions to the New Zealand batters Conway and number 3 Will Young . Young however batted with great composure but Conway was struggling . After hitting a couple of boundaries Conway, who hit 91 in the first innings , fell lbw to Bumrah after the Indian review overturned the not out verdict . The stubborn Conway managed 17 runs which is crucial in a small chase of 107 .
With 2 down for 35, India were poised to make further dent in the Kiwi batting but Rachin Ravindra stepped in and started playing sparkling shots as if he was playing on a different surface. Boundaries started to flow a bit more regularly as New Zealand started to march closer to the target . After a brilliant 8 over spell Bumrah had to be rested but the spinners could not create any impact as both Young (48*) and Ravindra (39*) were scoring comfortably and before long New Zealand wrapped up the win before lunch to go one up in the series .
There were several great performances by New Zealand in this game . Ravindra was of course the man of the match for his 134 & 39 not out . William O Rourke played his first test in India proved a handful with his pace & bounce with 7 wickets in the match . Matt Henry again proved to be India's nemesis with 8 wickets in the match and Tim Southee took 2 wickets and scored a crucial 65 in New Zealand 1st innings .
For India , after getting 46 all out in the 1st innings it was always going to be a tough job to make a comeback . However after yielding 402 to New Zealand and trailing by 356 on the 1st innings , the Indian top order batting scripted a great fightback and Sarafraz , Pant breathtaking 177 run partnership nearly took the game away from New Zealand before the New Zealand quicks struck back with the second new ball and the India 2nd innings collapsed from 433/4 to 462 all out - last 6 wickets falling for a meagre 29 runs . This finally set up the win for the Kiwis who are now looking for a double celebration on the same day if their women's team manage to win the T20I world cup .
