South Africa hold the aces after 1st 3 days of 1st test v Bangladesh
Fine bowling by the South African bowling attack and a superb match defining century by wicketkeeper Kyle Verreyene has helped visitors South Africa to hold the aces vs Bangladesh in the 1st test at Dacca .
The 2 test series is very crucial for South Africa as they are still in the running for a final spot in the current WTC cycle but they have to win all their remaining tests away and home .
Bangladesh won the toss and batted 1st . However fine bowling from the South Africans led by Rabada , totally dismantled the hosts batting. Opener Joy got a 30 but the other top order batters totally succumbed to the South African bowling . Moulder took 3 wickets and then Rabada had Bangladesh's most experienced batter Mushfiqur's (11) stamps shattered in all directions to complete his 300 test wickets . There was some resistance from Taijul (16) whose contribution helped Bangladesh to reach 100. Finally they were 106 all out . 3 wickets each to Rabada, Moulder & Maharaj .
In reply South Africa lost Aiden Markram (6) cheaply again . Their middle order batters got starts but could not cash in . Finally it was left to Kyle Verriyene to score a sparking 114 with full of sweep shots vs the spinners & delightful drives & cuts vs the quicks . Moulder (54) proved to be a great support as he again showcased ths all round talent . Peidt (32) helped South Africa to nudge past 300 as the Proteas posted 308 . For Bangladesh Taijul Islam took 5 wickets while Mahidy and Hasan took 2 & 3 wickets respectivey .
With a big deficit of 202 , Bangladesh started their second innings and was immediately in trouble as Rabada dispatched Shadman (1) & Mominul (0) in quick succession . Joy (40) , skipper Santo (23) & Mushfiqur (33) failed to convert their starts to big scores as Rabada & Maharaj kept taking wickets . Rabada again bowled Mushfiqur through the gate as South Africa had Bangladesh on the ropes again at 112/6 as an innings defeat looked imminent for the hosts .
However Mahedy Hasan Miraj and Jaker Ali held the innings together and put on a stellar stand of 138 to rescue South Africa . Mehidy who drove and cut well to reach 85 at close was again showing his maturity as a batter . Jaker (58) was lbw to Maharaj just before close in faded light . Nayeem Hasan (16) batted out the 3rd day as the hosts reached 283/7 and had acquired a lead of 81
With rains likely to hit Dacca , South Africa will now will look to end the Bangladesh innings quickly and knock off the runs early on day 4 .
