Devine powers NZ to series levelling win in 2nd ODI vs India

Radha Yadav's impressive all-round performance—taking four wickets, scoring 48 runs, and taking 2 breathtaking  catches —was ultimately not enough to secure a win for India as they lost to the New Zealand women's team by 76 runs in the second ODI, levelling the series. The third match on Tuesday will be decisive; the winner will take the series.

After winning the toss, New Zealand opted to bat and started strongly. Openers Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer built a solid foundation, comfortably advancing the score as India’s bowlers struggled to trouble them. Plimmer (41) was dismissed by Deepti Sharma with the score at 87. Although New Zealand quickly lost Lauren Down (3) soon after, Bates found support from captain Sophie Devine.

Bates (58) reached her half-century before being dismissed, and while Brooke Halliday (8) couldn’t add much, Devine and Maddy Green (42) took the score forward. Devine (79) batted almost to the end, helping New Zealand post 259 for 9 in 50 overs.

For Indians  Radha Yadav took 4 wickets while Deepti Sharma claimed 2 batters .

In response, India suffered an early blow as Smriti Mandhana (0) was dismissed in the first over, once again edging an outswinging delivery off Tahuhu. Soon after, Shafali Verma (11) , Yastika Bhatia (12), Jemima Rodrigues  (17) and returning captain Harmanpreet Kaur (24) followed,  unable to make a lasting impact. Both Deepti Sharma (15) and Tejas (15) did not last long.  India’s batters struggled to settle, and it was only a late 70 rim  partnership from Radha (48) and Saima Thakor (29) that helped reduce the margin of defeat. Both Radha & Saima batted with courage and showed their top order that there were no demons in the pitch.  For the visitors  Tahuhu & Devine  took 3 wickets each while Jess Kerr & Carlson picked  2 wickets each .
