Eng batters plunder runs vs Pak as Root, Brook smash 100s in 1st test

On the second day of the match, it was evident that the Multan pitch was a paradise for batters. The third day made it even clearer. England batted the entire day, scoring 396 runs. Joe Root and Harry Brook both scored centuries. Pakistan's bowlers managed to take only two wickets throughout the day. By the end of the third day, England trailed Pakistan by just 64 runs.

At the end of the second day, England had scored 96 for the loss of one wicket, with Root and Zak Crawley at the crease. On the third day, they resumed their innings, but England lost Crawley early. He was dismissed for 78 by Shaheen Afridi. Despite that early success, Pakistan couldn't capitalize further. Root then partnered with Ben Duckett for the third wicket, and both batted comfortably.

Root has been in excellent form this year, and he made full use of it in Multan. The Pakistani bowlers struggled to trouble him. While Root played with caution, Duckett was scoring rapidly, maintaining a strike rate of over 100 in the Test match. It seemed Duckett was headed for a century, but he was dismissed for 84 off 75 balls by Amir Jamal.

Even after losing three wickets, it never appeared that England's batters were under any pressure. The pitch offered little help to Pakistan's bowlers, who had to toil hard. Spinner Abrar Ahmed bowled the most, delivering 35 overs and conceding 174 runs. Root went on to score his 35th Test century, becoming the highest run-scorer for England in Tests, surpassing Alastair Cook.

Harry Brook, coming in at number five, batted aggressively. He seems to enjoy playing on Pakistani pitches, as he once again showed in this Test, where he also reached his century. This was his fourth consecutive century in Test matches on Pakistani soil. By the end of the third day, both Root and Brook remained unbeaten, with Root nearing a double century and Brook close to a half-century.

England finished the third day at 492 for 3, with Root on 176 and Brook on 141. Despite being 64 runs behind Pakistan, England is well on its way to gaining a significant lead on the fourth day.
