New Zealand topple Windies in a thriller to reach T20I WC Women's final

New Zealand defeated the West Indies by 8 runs in the semi-final of the Women's T20 World Cup. They will face South Africa in the final. This is New Zealand's first appearance in the final since 2010. Neither country has won the trophy before, so this year's Women's World Cup will see a new champion. After setting a target of 128/9, New Zealand restricted West Indies to 120/8.

Winning the toss, New Zealand opted to bat first. They had a solid start, with their openers adding 48 runs for the first wicket. Suzie Bates scored 26, while the other opener, Georgia Plimmer, contributed 33. After the dismissals of both openers, New Zealand's run rate slowed down as no batter could settle at the crease. Star all rounder Amelia Kerr (7) could not get going. Veteran player Sophie Devine scored 12, However Brook Halliday scored a quickfire 18 and  Isabella Gaze remained unbeaten with 20 towards the end, helping New Zealand post 128 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Diandra Dottin was the most successful  bowler for the West Indies  with 4 wickets .

In reply, the West Indies never really looked like they were in a position to win. Star all rounder Hayley Mathews (15) and Qiana Joseph (12) both could not force any pace in the powerplay that put more pressure .  Despite spending time at the crease, their batters threw away their wickets with poor shot selection. Taylor too failed to fire . The only significant resistance came from Deandra Dottin, who scored 33 off 22 balls, including three sixes and looked like carrying the team singlehandedly . Once she was dismissed, New Zealand’s victory seemed inevitable. Although Afi Fletcher (unbeaten 17) and Joseph (14 in 8 balls)  tried to fight back, they couldn't lead their team to victory. Needing 15 runs in the final over, West Indies could only manage six runs while losing a wicket. New Zealand's gamble of handing the ball to Bates in the last over paid off.  For New Zealand  , player of the match Eden Carson took 3 wickets while Amelia Kerr took 2 wickets .
