Lakshmi Puja - its significance & celebration of this hindu festival

 


Lakshmi Puja is a major Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth, prosperity, and fortune. Celebrated during Diwali, it holds great spiritual and cultural importance as people seek the blessings of the goddess for material and spiritual wealth. Lakshmi represents not just financial well-being but also harmony, purity, and abundance in all forms of life. It is believed that performing Lakshmi Puja brings peace, prosperity, and success to homes and businesses.


The festival is rooted in the belief that Goddess Lakshmi visits the homes of her devotees on Diwali night, blessing them with wealth and good fortune for the upcoming year. It is also a time to acknowledge the importance of cleanliness, light, and positivity, as it is said that Lakshmi prefers to dwell in spaces that are well-kept and bright.


How Lakshmi Puja is Celebrated


1. Cleaning and Decoration: People thoroughly clean their homes and offices to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. Entrances are decorated with vibrant rangolis, flowers, and oil lamps (diyas) to guide her into the house. Many place traditional footprints of Lakshmi at the entrance symbolizing her arrival.



2. Rituals and Offerings: The puja usually begins with a prayer to Lord Ganesha, followed by the worship of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera, the god of wealth. Devotees offer flowers, sweets, fruits, and other sacred items like coconut and betel leaves to the deities. Special prayers, known as aarti, are performed to invoke their blessings.



3. Lighting Lamps and Diyas: Homes are illuminated with oil lamps and candles, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and ignorance. People also light firecrackers to celebrate the victory of light over darkness.



4. Exchange of Gifts: It is common for families and friends to exchange sweets, gifts, and tokens of love during this time, furthering the spirit of togetherness and festivity.



5. Financial and Business Worship: Many business owners perform Lakshmi Puja to honor the goddess and seek success in their endeavors. Books of accounts and other financial records are often placed before the deity and blessed for prosperity in the coming year.




Lakshmi Puja not only holds deep religious significance but also encourages a sense of renewal, prosperity, and harmony within families and communities.

Olympics24: The Final medal tally - USA tops list, China 2nd, Japan third & India 71st

  The summer Olympics 2024 at Paris comes to a close with a thrilling women's basketball final between hosts France & USA . After a ripping contest USA just managed to sneak through to a solitary point win . It was a heartbreak for French women as they could not avenge the defeat of their male counterparts to USA on the previous night . Finally USA winning in the last minute of the epic contest by 67-66  and managed to equal China with 40 golds which enabled the Americans to end the games as the top nation with more total medals than China . With 126 medals and 40 golds USA ended as the top nation in this Olympics followed by China with a total of 91 medals and 40 golds . Japan with 20 golds and 45 total medals ended at 3 and Australia with 53 totals medals but 18 golds ended at 4th and below Japan.  Hosts France with 64 total medals ended at 5th spot followed by Netherlands,  Great Britain,  South Korea , Italy and Germany .   India with 6 total medals (5 bronze , 1 silver )
