Wimbledon '25: Iga Swaitek demolishes Anisimova to win 1st ever Wimbledon crown
To find a Grand Slam final as one-sided as Saturday’s would require a deep dive into the history books. In just 57 minutes, Poland’s eighth seed Iga Świątek demolished 13th seed Amanda Anisimova of the USA with a ruthless 6-0, 6-0 victory in the Wimbledon women’s singles final. The last time a scoreline like this occurred at Wimbledon was back in 1911, when Dorothea Lambert Chambers defeated Dora Boothby by the same margin. It’s taken 114 years for Centre Court to witness such a dominant performance again. There’s one other such instance in a Grand Slam final—when Steffi Graf beat Natasha Zvereva 6-0, 6-0 in the 1988 French Open final.
On Saturday, Anisimova couldn’t win a single game. She appeared helpless on court, with the crowd visibly disappointed by the lack of contest. Had there been no upset in the semifinals, a Świątek vs. Sabalenka final might have produced a far more thrilling battle. Still, Świątek had every reason to celebrate—this was her first Wimbledon title and sixth Grand Slam crown overall.
Świątek’s dominance was built on precision over power. She landed 78% of her first serves, winning 72% of those points. Anisimova never had a single break point opportunity. Świątek hit just three aces throughout the match, underscoring her focus on accuracy rather than aggression. In contrast, Anisimova’s serve completely fell apart. Her first serve percentage was poor, and her second serve was frequently punished. Świątek earned nine break points and converted six of them. She also capitalized on 28 unforced errors from the American.
Despite being just a year older—Świątek is 24, Anisimova 23—the difference in experience was glaring. This was Świątek’s sixth Grand Slam final, and she has won every single one. That unblemished record weighed heavily on Anisimova, who looked mentally defeated after the first set. From that point on, she was no longer in the match—barely able to engage in long rallies, let alone mount a fightback. That made Świątek’s path to the title even smoother. She now heads home with the first Grand Slam title of the 2025 season in her pocket.
