Harmanpreet’s Heroics & Kranti’s Six-wkt haul power IndiaW to Series-Clinching ODI Win

India’s women’s cricket team capped off a remarkable tour of England with a thrilling 13-run victory in the third and final ODI at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street, clinching the series 2-1 on Tuesday. A commanding century from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and a sensational six-wicket burst from Kranti Gaud were the highlights of a fiercely contested encounter.

Batting first, the Women in Blue posted a formidable total of 318/5, thanks largely to a glorious knock of 102 from just 84 deliveries by Harmanpreet. Her innings, laced with 14 exquisite boundaries, was a masterclass in aggressive strokeplay and composure under pressure. She also stitched a vital 110-run stand for the fourth wicket with Jemimah Rodrigues, who marked her 50th ODI appearance with a fluent 50 off 45 balls.

India’s top order laid a solid foundation, with vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and Harleen Deol chipping in with composed knocks of 45 runs each. Smriti looked in sublime touch as usual while  Harleen played some sparkling shots . Towards the end, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh provided a powerful finish, smashing an explosive 38 from just 18 balls, which included three boundaries and two towering sixes.

England’s bowling unit, though unable to prevent the onslaught, managed to pick up one wicket each through Lauren Bell, Lauren Filer, Charlotte Dean, Sophie Ecclestone, and Linsey Smith. Ecclestone was particularly impressive on a batting dominated day with figures of 1/28 in 10 overs

Defending a competitive total, India displayed outstanding discipline with the ball and energy in the field. Young pacer Kranti Gaud drew first blood with two early breakthroughs helped one by a terrific diving Deepti catch , unsettling the English top order and setting the tempo for the innings. Though England attempted to fight back, a key partnership was broken by Shree Charani clean bowling Lamb (68), shifting the momentum once again in India’s favour.

Deepti Sharma then delivered a decisive blow by removing the dangerous captain Natalie Sciver-Brunt (98), who was nearing a century. Charani added another scalp to her name, but it was Kranti Gaud who emerged as the standout performer. With impeccable accuracy and relentless intensity, she claimed a stunning 6/52, dismantling England’s middle and lower order to secure a memorable victory.

This win not only sealed the ODI series but also wrapped up a successful all-format tour for India, having earlier triumphed 3-2 in the T20I series. The tour will be remembered for its thrilling contests, standout individual performances, and India's consistent dominance across formats on English soil.
