Australia seal dominant win to spoil Andre Russell’s farewell in 2nd T20I

Australia powered to a commanding eight-wicket win over the West Indies in the second T20 International on Tuesday, denying Caribbean all-rounder Andre Russell a fairytale ending to his international career.

After being sent in to bat, the West Indies posted a modest total of 172 for 8, with opener Brandon King anchoring the innings with a fluent 51. Russell, playing his final international match, thrilled fans with a whirlwind 36 off just 15 balls, featuring trademark power-hitting. However, his efforts were in vain as the West Indies faltered under pressure.

The visitors paid dearly for their sloppy fielding display, dropping as many as six catches—mistakes that proved costly against an aggressive Australian batting unit.

Australia’s innings got off to a shaky start with the surprise promotion of Glenn Maxwell (12) as opener alongside skipper Mitchell Marsh (21). Both fell cheaply within the powerplay, giving the West Indies early hope.

But the momentum quickly shifted as Josh Inglis (78*) and Cameron Green (56*) stitched together a breathtaking, unbeaten 131-run stand. Inglis’s explosive 33-ball innings featured five towering sixes, while Green notched his second consecutive half-century of the series, laced with four sixes of his own.

The duo's clinical batting display saw Australia reach the target in just 15.2 overs, securing a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Having already swept the Test series 3-0, Australia now stand one win away from clinching the T20I series when the teams meet next in Basseterre on Saturday.
