England women Crush India in Rain-Hit ODI at Lord’s to Level Series , Ecclestone shines

England women produced a dominant all-round display to level the ODI series 1-1 with an emphatic eight-wicket win over India in a rain-curtailed clash at Lord’s.

The match was initially reduced to 29 overs per side due to a heavy morning downpour. After being asked to bat first, India struggled on a sluggish surface and limped to 144 for 8, failing to capitalize on multiple fielding lapses by England, who dropped four catches and missed several other opportunities.

Despite being handed an early reprieve, opener Smriti Mandhana (42 off 51) couldn’t convert her start into a big score, eventually falling in the 21st over to Linsey Smith, with Charlie Dean taking the catch. Deepti Sharma (30* off 32) offered some late resistance, but India’s innings lacked momentum throughout.

England’s spin trio led the bowling effort with clinical precision:

  • Sophie Ecclestone: 3 for 27
  • Linsey Smith: 2 for 28
  • Charlie Dean: 1 for 31

In reply, England were cruising at 102 for 1 when rain intervened again, reducing their target to 115 from 24 overs. The hosts made light work of the chase, reaching the revised total with three overs to spare.

Amy Jones anchored the innings with a composed 46 not out, sharing partnerships of:

  • 54 for the first wicket with Tammy Beaumont
  • 48 for the second wicket with skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt (21*)

With this win, England level the series 1-1 ahead of the decider at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday—a crucial fixture as it marks their final competitive ODI before the upcoming Women’s World Cup in the autumn.
