Gill scripts historic 269 as India take strong hold of 2nd test vs England
India has taken a strong hold of the 2nd test vs England at Egbaston Birmingham . The young Indian skipper Shubman Gill stole the show on day 2 with a magnificently crafted double hundred with stellar support from the two spin allrounders Jadeja & Sundar . Later the bowlers made serious dents to the england top order and left them reeling at 77/3 at close .
Starting the day on 114 , Gill looked in imperious touch as he batted solidly but kept the scoreboard moving with sublime strokes all around . He played with soft hands , close to the body and scored with effortless ease . Gill got tremendous support from Ravindra Jadeja who scored 89 fluent runs before finally falling to a snorter from Tongue after a mammoth 203 run stand. Later Washington Sundar batted solidly for his 42 and became more adventurous towards the end of a productive 144 run stand . He was dismissed by a spinning delivery from Root .
Gill continued to effortlessy pile on the runs and finally after a 144 run stand with Sundar he was dismissed for an outstanding innings 269 .
Soon India ended their innings at a massive 587 and Indian bowlers hit back with 3 quick wickets to rattle the England top order .
Duckett was snapped up in the slips off Akashdeep , Pope went the same fashion to Akashdeep and Crawley edged Siraj to the keeper as England slipped to 25/3. However Harry Brook joined Root and together they survived a few anxious moments to stay at the close with Brook reaching 30 & Root moving to 18 .
The 3rd day pre lunch session may well become the key for the final verdict of this test .
